b.) I think that the graphic for one of Shannel's songs, Angel, did an excellent job of capturing the essence of the song because it shows the angels in the sky and someone in the arms of an angel, just like one of the sentences in the song.
c.) I think the 5 step analysis of the poem "Seashells," on Rebekah's page taught me something about the poem. For example, it taught me that when you look at people, you judge them before you even know them, but when you get to know them, they are not what you expected them to be.

b) I think Sharmaine's poetry graphic for "Slideshow" by T.I was a excellent job of capturing the essence of the poem because what she did was place photos of her and other things which she loves to capture the moment.
c) Traci's 5 step analysis taught me something about the poem which was that people in general, we choose all these roads in life that affects us. We have difficulty in choosing the right path. Even if we chose the wrong one, we still know that we can make it better.
1. a) Definitions & Examples:
i. Similie- a simile is when you compare two nouns that are unlike, with "like" or "as." EXAMPLE: "My face looks like a wedding-cake left out in the rain." - W.H. Auden (WEBSITE CREATOR: Shannel Cabuhat)
ii. Metaphor - figure of speech that literally shows the comparison of two things to suggest a simliarity between the two. EXAMPLE: "My life is a dream." (WEBSITE CREATOR: Korie Lum)
iii. Personification - bringing an inanimate object to life. EXAMPLE: "Spring has woken up." (WEBSTIE CREATOR: Shaneika Aguilar)
iv. Imagery - Imagery is a vivid description language that appeals to one or more of the sense. EXAMPLE: "The artist's life nourishes itself on the particular, the concrete. . . . Start with the mat-green fungus in the pine woods yesterday: words about it, describing it, and a poem will come. . . . b) One poetry graphic that really caught my eye was Korie's graphic of "Life is but a Dream" by Lewis Caroll. When I was reading the poem, I thought about a fantasy world. And the little kid staring out into the ocean looks like he's thinking about another world or place across the sea. Even though it may look simple, it still sends out a message of someone wanting to be somewhere else.
c) Shannel's 5-step analysis of "Man In The Mirror" by Michael Jackson taught me that in order to change the world you have to change yourself first. I also learned that if you set a good example, it will motivate others to do the same. You must act as a catalyst for change to occur. This is what I understood from Shannel's analysis.

iii.) Personification: Personification is an ontological metaphor in which a thing or abstraction is represented as a person. [Cause you're beautiful like a flower] -"Beautiful Flower" by India Arie; Janelle Viana.
iv.) Imagery: Figurative description or illustration; rhetorical images collectively. [Waits at the window, wearing a face she keeps in a jar by the door.] - "Eleanor Rigby" by The Beatles; Isabelle Sayno.
v.) Alliteration: Using the same consonant to start two or more stressed words or syllables in a phrase or verse line, or using a series of vowels to begin such words or syllables in sequence. [Her hardest hue to hold.] -"Nothing Gold Can Stay" by Robert Frost; Sharmaine Sebastian.
vi.) Onomatopoeia: The formation of a word, by imitation of a sound made by or associated with it referent. [Bang Bang] -"I'm a Nail" by Kiyo Keanini; Kiyo Keanini.
vii.) Symbol: A thing that represents or stands for something else, esp. a material object representing something abstract. [Two roads diverged in a yellow wood]- "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost; Madelynne Nguyen.
b.) Shannel had really good pictures on her website. She used a variety of cupcakes in a picture. In the same picture, she included a set of eyes. In her poem, she said something that meant that she is different in many ways. When she says this, she means that she is somewhat different from the others, just like a cupcake is different from other cupcakes. The variety of cupcakes shows the difference in each cupcake and the set of eyes represents herself.
c.) As we all know, Shaneika is VERY descriptive when it comes to explaining something :) [Right Shaneika? :P] In her poem, "I Know Why the
Caged Bird Sings" by Maya Angelo, she explains that the bird is forever trapped inside and cannot be free. All it can do is sing because its feet are tied and its wings are clipped. She also compares the life of a caged bird to a person in jail. They are both forever trapped inside bars. She also compared a caged bird to an african american because back in the day, they were kept under the power of a caucasian. Her detailed explanations has helped me in clearly understanding the poem.

b. The graphics displayed on Shannel's website captured her personality, in my opinion. I enjoyed the variety of cupcakes, which complemented Shannel's diverse personality.
c. My ultimate favorite "5-step process description" would have to be from Jordy's website. YEAH JORDY! haha...
I think the selection of the poems was a contributed factor to why her descriptions are excellent :D It seemed that she was familiar with her selected poems, and therefore ideas were flowing in her head every time she had read the poems. Her descriptions are very straightforward and concise, and in my opinion that's very commendable.

I think Shaneika’s graphic for the song “Wedding Dress” was perfect for the song. It kind of summarizes the whole song in one picture. I like how she makes everything in the picture symbolize something and it makes it easier to understand.
In Maddie’s 5 step analysis about the song “Numb” by Linkin Park I learned what the song meant not only in general but also what it meant to Maddie. I’ve never really thought of this song before but now that I can read Maddie’s analysis I understand that this person feels like he’s trying to hard to be like everyone else when really he just wants people to like him for who he is. This is a much more powerful song then I thought and it makes me wonder now how much meaning a song can have that you never realize.

Personification: A figure of speech that gives the qualities of a person to an animal, an object, or an idea. I think that shanieka’s graphic for her metaphor poem was very creative and it really captured the essence of the poem. She had a picture of herself as a screen saver and had a picture of a computer. When I read her poem, I had the same idea for the graphic. It was very well put together because it was plain, simple, creative and it really matched her metaphor poem.
o A description of a 5 step analysis that taught you something about a poem
I very much enjoyed Jordie’s 5 step analysis of The Fox Crow and Cookie. Her explanation of the song was very accurate, it made sense and it was concise. It was interesting to hear a song about a twisted fairytale story. Her choice of poem was creative and her analysis was even better. It taught me that even an innocent ‘victim’ can be easily turned into a “glutinous” animal :)

b. The poetry graphic I liked was Traci's. It was for the song "I believe I can fly - R.Kelly" Her photoshop graphic had a good visual of you can do anything as long as you believe in yourself. Her graphic showed the sky which I think represents after the person has "taken off the ground" the person with their arms open showing they can do anything as long as they believe, and the birds that show how they would look like if they flew like them. It captured a perfect essence of the poem that I can see in their perspective and vision.
c. The 5 step process that taught me something new about the poem that I never knew about is Sharmaine Sebastian's poem analysis on "Nothing Gold Can Stay." Her analysis explained that no matter how old we get, we will still be a kid at heart. I understood her 5 step process the most.

b. Shaneika's graphic on the wedding dress, I felt did an excellent job illustrating the whole message and idea of the song. It shows everything about the relationship, love, happiness, and everything else in between. Each image on the graphic represents for something different.
c. The 5-step analysis of Jordie's The Fow Crow and Cookie. Each step was accurate and reasonable. The way Jordie chose the poem, was creative, and the description of the main idea was concise. It shows everything about the characteristics about the Fox and Crow.

1b. I enjoyed Sharmaine's graphic for her Self-Metaphor poem. It was interesting how the film folded into a heart hspae and her poem also states about memories about the people who she loves and enjoys being around.
1c. I liked Shannel's description of the poem 'Mother to Son' because I felt like she really tried her best to relate to this poem. I like how she described how she felt inspried by this poem. Although she did so very well on all her analysis I liked this poem in particular.

B.) I think Janelle's poetry graphic of the poem "Beautiful Flower by India Arie" did an excellent job of capturing the essence of the poem because it was plain and simple. It was a picture of a pink/purple flower. The song/poem is comparing a girl's beauty with a flower and the flower that janelle picked was beautiful.
C.) Czarina's 5 step process of "Loving Yourself by Stacey Chillemi" taught me that no matter what happens have confidence in yourself. Also, it taught me that we shouldn't put ourselves down, we should be happy for who we are and always be the better person. Never tear yourself down, have courage in yourself.

Rebekah's 5 step analysis taught me that the meaning of the poem 'Seashells' can relate to life and how we see people... for example: someone may look collected and 'with the program' on the outside or far away.. but when you get to know them, the are a different person/character than what you thought you had seen.

b) I think that the graphics that Maddie used for her songs did a great job of capturing the meaning. She used multiple graphics. For example, in the song, "In the End" by Linkin Park, she uses multiple graphics that represent loneliness, depression, anxiety, etc. just like the meaning of the song.
c) Czarina - We have our hearts to stay strong, no matter what happens.
Isabelle - This poem states that people who are afraid of being great should stop. They should start believing in themselves because everyone has a right to be brilliant.
