1. What stories might be represented by the cave drawings from Lascaux?
-We evaluated the the cave drawings that are being shown and think that they might represent two opposing armies going to war. The animals represent the people living at the time.

2. What reasons might early man have had to create them?
-It was probably their way of documenting what was going on in their society at the time. So, drawing on the walls was their solution to telling stories.

3. What similarities do you see between the Lascaux art and the other ancient art pictures on the second web page?
-The art pictures on both webpages include the importance of animals and land.

4. What stories might be depicted by the art from...
-Knosses:
The picture represents "survival of the fittest". Since the dolphins are much greater and more fit, they seem to survive better than the smaller fishes.
-Egypt: It seems as if the drawing represents hunting due to the fact that the animals fall prey to the humans.
-China: The first two pictures of China show sceneries. We've evaluated that China likes to protect their land and what belongs to them. The last two pictures of China represent the fact that horses are held in high regard because it looks like only emperor's could ride them.

5. Since these images come from different geographical locations, what might be some generalizations you can make about myths and man?
-Myths and man aren't much different. The way they lived their society and how we live ours is very similar. We fight wars, people suffer from poverty and hunger, etc.

1. What stories might be represented by the cave drawings from Lascaux?
In the cave drawings, we think it portrays stories about hunting herds of buffalo or cattle. Or maybe even stories of how abundant they were at that time.

2. What reasons might early man have had to create them?
They might have created these cave drawings because it was part of their culture and a way to record special events. Also, they might have used these drawings to tell the next generation stories from their time.

3. What similarities do you see between the Lascaux art and the other ancient art pictures on the second web page?
The similarities between these paintings are that they showed the significance of nature and life. Their cave drawings and paintings usually involve landscapes, animals, and people.

4. What stories might be depicted by the art from Knossos? Egypt? China?
The art from Knossos depicts stories about how they might have hunted fish for food. Or maybe the fish were something that represented them in a form of a spirit. Or even showed the superiority of the dolphins over the smaller fish. We think that the art from Egypt depicts stories about the importance of cattle and fish at the time. Also, in the picture we think that it represents how cows were used to plow fields and that fishing was a way of life for them. The art from China depicts stories about how they maybe relied on the land for many things such as medicine, etc. We think they also respect their land and want to keep the beauty of it. All these three shows that the people who painted these relied on the resources of their land.

5. Since these images come from different geographical locations, what might be some generalizations you can make about myths and man?
It shows how man and nature, including animals, can interact mutually. The purpose of these myths is to show future generations and to teach them the way their ancestors lived. Also, maybe its purpose is to teach these future generations how to preserve their land, resources, and culture.

Both of the webpages include animal metaphors where animals play a vital role in their society.

The drawing from Knossos could be depicting how the dolphins would dominate the fishes. This could of meant that even in this time period there was also someone who was superior than everyone else.
The drawing from Egypt could be showing that the village people hunted for their food such as fish and cow.
The photos from China looks like it could interpret long journeys shown by the landscapes and mountains in the pictures. The village people in China look like they rely on the horses for transportation.

5. Since these images come from different geographical locations, what might be some generalization you can make about myths and man? The myths and man images all illustrate some type of story being told of the many traditions and customs of the different geographical locations. Every place may share the similarities of both relying on the same things such as cattle and hunting yet they dont share the same importance. For example, cattle in one region would be important for food and prey where in one area they are most important for transportation.

1) What stories might be represented by the cave drawings from Lascaux?
The stories might be about hunting and encounters with beasts. Most of the drawings are mainly based on animals, such as bulls and cows. They must have been the main means of survival for the people who lived in that village-like place. However, at the same time, they may have been hurt by these beasts.

2) What reasons might early man have had to create them?
They did this to tell stories, and to document their life. It may have been to pass down stories to different generations.

3) What similarities do you see between the Lascaux art and the other ancient art pictures on the second web page?
There are a lot of pictures of animals. Some of the pictures show human interactions with animals (such a hunting, or getting mauled by a beast).

4) What stories might be depicted by the art from Knossos? Egypt? China?
Knossos shows that they valued marine life. The image shows the dolphins and the fishes swimming in unity under the ocean, as it is depicted by the painting.

Egypt shows that they value the ox or cow. The picture displays how they got food. It also shows a man on the side fishing for fishes and gathering them up for food as well. These animals were their means of survival. However, it's kind of odd how they lined the animals up to be eaten.

China shows of the scenery and the mountains. They value horses because they use them as transportations. The horses appear to be well fed because they are nice and plump. They must have used these horses to travel across those great distances. Also, it may have been awe-inspiring. So much that someone had to paint it on paper. In addition, the angry horse in the right may have been their way of disciplining the horses or taming them if they were newly caught. They caught them because they are of good use.

5) Since these images come from different geographical locations, what might be some generalizations you can make about myths and man?
Even though man lives in different locations, they all find the need to survive on animals. They all want to record down their history and experiences. That way the new generations will be able to understand their ancestors' stories and their way of living.
Men live on myths because that's what they believe in. That was their way of surviving during those times and they lived on it. So, it was passed to many generations. Even today, many myths are still being shared, although they may have been somewhat modified as they were being passed down. Geographical locations does not conquer myths and man. In all ancient arts, shared around the world, the images shows how human and nature are "one." No one is greater than the other and the images show how they interacted back then. Beasts mauled humans and humans ate them. So, it's an equal balance between the both.
