Roots and Recipes: Videoconference Plans

For the survey we should start off with something funny...
For example:
"Have you ever heard of the tv show called "blah blah blah"?... WELL WE'RE NOT TALKING ABOUT THAT TODAY! We're gonna talk about our culture."
We can ask them questions like
-Have you ever heard of Spam Musubi?
-Has anyone ever been in Hawaii?
-If any of you think we live in shacks, we don't.
-Who's been surfing before? ITS FUN, YEAH! ;)
2. We can dance hula for them, sing them a chant, and play the ukulele. We can also teach them hawaii words and gestures. Ex: Aloha & Mahalo
3. We should do it by courses. Like appetizers first (banana lumpia), then the main course (kaopuhn), and then a dessert (halo halo)

Instead of focusing so much on Hawaiian themed activities, we can also introduce the other cultures that exist in Hawaii, such as Filipinos, Japanese, Korean, Micronesian, Samoan, a Laotian, Chinese, and many more.
3) Courses. From the main dishes, to appetizers, and then desserts.
We should also share the many things that we do in Hawaii. As well as our daily lifestyles. Share them the many famous sight seeings in Hawaii. Share them the traditional clothing styles of Hawaii. Oh and the different cultures that exist in Hawaii. Share the stories that get passed on from hula dancing.

Okay so here are some ideas we came up with I'm sure there are more but these are the ones we can up with at the moment.
Activities:
First we should start off with a joke. Like we thought we should talk all pidgin, and then say nah nah just jokes we don't always talk like that but sometimes we do. We should start with an introduction. Say our names and something about us and maybe an icebreaker(depending on how easy it is to here each other.) Then we should explain what we're doing in english right now and explain about our roots and recipes theme. Next if maybe we could do a demo on making some kind of popular food in Hawaii but something simple. For example, we thought of maybe poi or spam musubi(something that they have probably never eaten before.) After that we were thinking of doing a demo of some things that represent our culture and the ideas we came up with for that was get a group of people to dance hula, a couple people can play ukulele and sing, or maybe we could do poi balls.

some interesting questions that we could ask to get a feel who these people are, what they are like, how different there culture is and how much they know about Hawaii and what there impression of us is...

Powerpoints:
We all agreed that we should show a powerpoint for each different culture we represent. We maybe end in with a Hawaiian dish and show and example of the dish. Also we should focus on explaining how diverse Hawaii is and maybe go around and share our ethnicities. At that point we could teach them some of the Hawaiian vocabulary and or some pidgin.
Lastly we could end by saying our goodbyes and also maybe exchanging e-mails so we could keep in touch and learn more about each other. These are our ideas for the video conference with Maine.
